The idea of Learning Organizations as a strategy for improving and evolving organizations to be more adaptive and efficient was pioneered by Peter Senge and a group of colleagues.
The Foundational book The Fifth Discipline and the creation of Society of Organizational Learning has been core nutrients for developing the field of Organizational Change, Systems Thinking and for working with complexity in relationship to societal change.
“If we see each problem—be it water shortages, climate change, or poverty—as separate, and approach each separately, the solutions we come up with will be short-term, often opportunistic, “quick fixes” that do nothing to address deeper imbalances.”
Peter M. Senge is a Senior Lecturer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Founding Chair of SoL, the Society for Organizational Learning, a global community of corporations, researchers, and consultants dedicated to the interdependent development of people and their institutions.
Peter’s areas of interest focus on decentralizing the role of leadership in organizations and collaborative networks of organizations to enhance the capacity of all people to work productively toward common goals. Dr. Senge’s work articulates a cornerstone position of human values in the workplace; namely, that vision, purpose, reflectiveness, ongoing personal and collective development, and systems thinking are essential if organizations are to realize their potential.
The calls are hosted by Amy and Rowan. We are inviting our elders and pioneers of these practices to share their journey and perspectives on how this has evolved.
